5 for Friday and Daily 5 FREEBIE

I’m SO happy we finally made it to Friday!  This week has been crazy with trying to get my room ready for summer while still keeping the kiddos engaged.  I always like to leave for summer with at least part of my room ready to go and it’s nice to be staying in the same room next year.  Soo #1 for my 5 for Friday is my new Daily 5 bulletin board that I’m super pumped about!  You can grab it for FREE by clicking on the picture.

I now have my old Daily 5 board in my TpT store for free as well.

#2.  Since the weather has been so nice in Chicago, we’ve been doing some “Outdoor Math” as a culminating math project.  My students took tons of pictures with the iPads of examples of math around our school and created Keynote presentations to share with their classmates.

#3.  We made word clouds using Tagxedo instead of a traditional memory book.  My kids either made them in the shape of an apple or a school bus.  Here are a couple that turned out super cute.

#4.  We made books using Storybird with our first grade reading buddies.  The little ones chose the pictures and my 4th graders helped them do most of the typing.  They worked so well together and the books turned out great!

#5.  My 400 Follower giveaway ended and I haven’t even had a chance to announce the winner (I did send her her winnings though:) Cherie Mae was the lucky winner of the Starbucks gift card and many TpT products.  Thank you to all who entered and to my very generous bloggy buddies for their donations!

Hope you have a relaxing and safe Memorial Day weekend!

Tried-it/Techie Tuesday and Giveaway

Before I get into my post, I want to give a shout out about my friend Holly's amazing 500 follower giveaway!  You can win your choice of any item from my TpT store in addition to over 50 prizes and a total of $60 in Amazon gift cards!  You don't want to miss this one!

Have you tried Storybird with your class?  I'm always looking for new ways to make Work on Writing more engaging and this one was a huge hit with my kiddos.  The site is very user-friendly and it didn't take long at all to set up my class and get my kids logged in.  When they create a new story, they can search by themes (or tags) to find artwork and then they just start typing in the words.  It's very easy to drag the pictures and text around to your liking.  Here's an example of one student's story.  I have them use their vocabulary words from their Padlet word walls, which is why glimpse is in all caps.:)

One feature I really love about Storybird is that your students can publish their stories to the class library.  The library is private and only members of the class can view it.  They are even able to comment on one another's work.  When kids know they have an audience, I believe their writing is of higher quality, and I can already see the effects of that with Storybird.

New Products and a Sale

Just a quick post today to let you know that I’m participating in the TpT store-wide sale tomorrow and Wednesday.:)  You’ll be able to enjoy a 30% discount on all my items, including the two new bundles I just finished up this weekend!

My kiddos were SO excited when I introduced these space-themed centers today.  This pack includes five sets of task cards aligned to the Common Core.  If you’ve purchased my camping-themed or beach-themed bundles, these are a similar format—just different skills.  This set, as well as my other task card bundles come in a regular version if you’re not a QR code person.  Here they are reviewing number forms and checking their answers using QR Journal.

I also made a new bundle of eight math scavenger hunts in the exact same format as my other one, but with the more foundational skills in NBT and OA.  This is a perfect review for the beginning or end of the school year to make sure your students have no gaps in those critical Common Core skills.

Can’t wait to go browse TpT and fill my cart!  Happy shopping!:)
